Celebrating the life of
Roy (Buz) Weitzell
August 16, 1941 - January 15, 2026
Roy Everett Weitzell, 84, known by family and friends as “Buz”, passed away Thursday, January 15, 2026, at his home. He was born August 16, 1941, in Morgantown, West Virginia to the late Everett Carl and Hazel Mae Speicher Weitzell. A 1959 graduate of Francis C. Hammond High School in Alexandria, Virginia, he went on to graduate from Virginia Tech in 1964. He also served his country proudly in the U.S. Army.
Roy worked as a Marketing Executive throughout his career. He worked for Bell Atlantic as the Managing Director of Advertising, retiring in 1991 after 25 years of service. He later worked for Comsonics in Harrisonburg, Virginia for 10 years, retiring from there in 2001. After retirement he became a Golf Ranger at Rock Harbor Golf Course, in Winchester, Virginia.
After his long career in Marketing, he and his wife moved to Savannah in 2010, to enjoy retirement at The Landings on Skidaway Island. He was a member of The Landings Club, the Coastal Conservation Association, Skidaway Island Chapter, and an active member of St. James Catholic Church.
Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Ruby Faircloth Weitzell, of Savannah, two son, James “Jim” Bovino (Linda) of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Roy E. Weitzell, Jr. (Erin) of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Also surviving are his two grandchildren, Morgan Weitzell (St. Olaf College, Northfield, MN, Class of ‘27), and Dylan Weitzell (United States Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, NY, Class of ‘29).
A Memorial Mass will be held Friday, January 23, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church. Inurnment will be at a later date in Beaufort National Cemetery.
Remembrances, in lieu of flowers, can be made to the Hospice service of your choice.
Such a sad loss for everyone who knew him. We will miss his generosity, kindness and friendship and the joy and fun of sharing our grandchildren.
